    1960 - 1965

My favorite subject was English and my teacher was Miss Britian.
Miss Curtis was my form teacher in the 1st. year, she also taught Art.
Mrs Overton was my form teacher in year 4 and also took me for Domestic science.
I had Miss Edwards for needle work.
Miss Smout was my form teacher in the 5th. year and also took me for P.T.
Miss Gray joined the school as head teacher in 1962, she was a really nice teacher and helped and adviced me with my future career.

We had buses to take us to Hengrove school for games once a week. We went Broad Weir and Hotwells baths for our swimming lesson I took my 4 lengths swimming certificate there. We always used Temple church and gardens for our school photos. Camp for year 2 and 3 was held at Orcombe point Exmouth sleeping in bell tents, it was run by Bristol education and we were also joined by other schools.

We also joined up with Redcliffe boys school for services at St. Mary Redcliffe church, during Lent we walked to church every Thursday afternoon for a service. On Colston day we also went to church and received a round currant bun after the service.

In 1965 the CSE exams came in replacing the old UEI exams so we were the first to take them and didn't know what to expect.

  2. From an email recieved from Jilly E (abridged and edited)

In September 1964 - July 1966 three girls (as we were then!) joined St. Mary Redcliffe Boys School in your sixth form to enable us to be taught A’Level subjects, something Temple Colston Girls School didn’t have the expertise for.

They were Susan James, Roberta Redmore & I (then Jill Fellows). Susan was Head Girl, I was Vice-Head girl & Robbie was senior prefect!

I certainly was very fortunate with my schooling at TCS & SMR.

Mr. Roger Watson was the Art Teacher at SMR & Miss Howard at TCS. Also Mrs Ruth Price, who was Ruth Wedlock before she married, she was Fred Wedlock’s cousin or niece.

I remember Mr. Codrington & Mrs.Fletcher who both taught English at SMR. I remember her riding a motorbike.

Head Teacher of TCS was Miss Margaret Grey an inspirational lady, she taught my older sister too but at Colston Girls School, my sister passed the 11 plus.

I went on to study at the West of England College of Art, now UWE & I’m still making my living from my art as a Tapestry Artist Weaver.
I went on to study at Edinburgh College of Art too.
